I have read so many stories on this site called sixbillionsecrets.com of people hurting themselves..it makes me cry to hear those stories. So to all that hurt themselves purposely -- don't. Try and find an activity to do, like swimming, volleyball, exercise, anything! Just please don't hurt yourself...because it could lead to killing yourself..and once you do, you can't go back... If you think that no one cares, that's not true. I care, and I'm sure that many others do. I may not know you..but I care. I really do. And you're beautiful. No matter what other people might say. Don't try and change yourself for anyone, because you're gorgeous the way you are. www.whosthecutest.com/

Thing is...sometimes those people feel that there really is nobody for them. They can't find anyone in their life who can stop and listen to them for a few minutes.
I'm like that in a way - I get suicidal thoughts pretty often (though right now it's all fine and cheerful) and while I am aware that there are people who care for me, I don't really care in the frst place, actually, because I see myself as a pest to the world. xD I'm just using up all the precious oxygen in the air. I have to turn on the air-con every night or I can't sleep because it'll be too hot.

While I agree that hurting yourself is generally not the best way to go, sometimes it is. I know that if I hadn't cut a few years ago, everything would have built up, and somebody [me or someone else] would have undoubtedly ended up dead. So I'm glad I cut. But I'm also glad I stopped.
Oh, and just because you cut doesn't mean you feel that nobody cares and that you think you're ugly. For me it was quite the opposite, it was the caring that hurt the most, and I was pretty narcissistic xD However, I did change myself, and I am so glad I id. I didn't like who I was, so I changed it. What's wrong with change?

Only thing is, like Kat said-- for most people who cut, they do it because they DON'T want to kill themselves. Cutting is an outlet to try and deal with pain. That's why people who are guilted or whatnot into stopping tend to be the ones who kill themselves.
I agree that people shouldn't cut and should try and get help so they can deal with their problems in a more constructive fashion, BUT... sometimes that isn't possible. Sad, but true. :[

Sometimes pain you can control helps manage pain you can't control.
I know you mean well, and it's true there are usually betters outlets, but it's a very complicated thing.
EDIT: I wasn't being very clear here. I don't mean to suggest it's a good thing, but the reasons people do it are fairly broad and there is no answer that addresses them all. I know you mean well, but it's something that should be approached with a lot of caution and few assumptions, because it's easy to alienate people who are already, often, hurting in one way or many.
